I told someone I was starting therapy again tomorrow after four years, and their reply was, “Why do you need therapy if you have an amazing husband you can vent to?”

There’s a huge difference between the conversation and care you get from a partner or friend and therapy. They are not the same. You don’t pay a therapist to listen to your problems and be compassionate towards you, you pay them for their time and expertise in unpacking and learning to cope with disorders, stress, grief, and figuring out how get back to who you are at your core. I’m happier than ever and I have amazing people I love all around me, but that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t benefit from speaking to a counselor regularly. In fact, one of the reasons I’m choosing to go back to therapy is so that I can be my best self for me and my relationships.

@hewyheff asked if he should stop + get me flowers today. I told him he already gave me the best flow-er in the world. Staying grateful through what’s been some of the darkest, goopiest, droopiest days of depression. Today anxiety joined to remind me I’m human, but it’s okay. Spending the day outside of my nest reminding myself how divine my life is.
