10 UNIQUE (& CHEAP!) NYC DATE IDEAS: SUMMER 2015
Summer arrived a few days ago…you’re not still stuck on having bae over for Netflix in your air-conditioned living room with take-out are you? If you’re tired of the usual dinner and a movie…you should be. NEWSFLASH: THIS IS NEW YORK CITY, PEOPLE. There’s more to do than Carmine’s, AMC and Pinkberry. Luckily, I’m here to help you out again.
If you’re more on the culturally artsy side and don’t want to settle for a gallery or museum (been there, done that), why not let Shakespeare be your third wheel? Plays are presented for free every summer at the airy Delacorte Theater in Central Park. If you can’t score tickets to the Delacorte, try catching a spot any of these free outdoor theaters. Oh and…BYOB as long as there’s no glass!
I added this to last year’s list and I’ll add it to every list hereafter because 1. Concert aficionada 2. WHY NOT? Central Park Summerstage has become a NYC summer staple for music lovers all over the tri-state area. This summer enjoy the likes of Gyptian, The Internet, Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era, Glass Animals and Walk The Moon.
Wanna literally get weird with your adrenaline rush-loving darling? Give them a night of Black Ops Laser Tag, Archery Battling or the Zombie Experience. Yes, ZOMBIES. Indoor Extreme Sports is sure help give them a date they’ve never been on.
A couple that laughs together, stays together. Ok, I just made that up, but seriously - what feels better than laughter? …That’s not where I was going, but I like how you think. Head over to The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and enjoy a night of improvisation by some very likely A-list comedians.
Zombie laser tag wasn’t good enough for you? How about you’re given 60 minutes to escape an enclosed room by finding hidden items in the space? Does that impress you? Well Escape The Room will certainly impress your date if they’re into more action-packed romantic outings.
Giddy up for plans you didn’t think you could make in New York City. Containing the last of Brooklyn’s native woodlands and only freshwater lake, Prospect Park is not only a historic site, but a super cool date spot too. Enjoy an hour long horseback ride along a 3.5 mile nature trail provided by Kensington Stables and be sure to swoon. bae. out.
Give blind date a new definition and have dinner at Camaje. Dinner in the dark that is. This is the most pricey of all the date options, but it’s exclusivity was reason enough to add it to this list. Guests are blinded-folded throughout a surprise, multi-course meal. There are LEVELS to this sense-hightening thang.
Wishing you all tons of happy, sexy, unique dates this season. XO.
